The heart of the house was built in the middle of the 19th century. All rooms are light and airy, some fitted out in typical Provencal style with French doors and shutters.

For the summertime there is a communal, fully equipped outside-kitchen with a barbeque. Deck chairs and sun umbrellas can also be used in the garden.

About the local area

Vence is an artist’s town and along with its equally well-known neighbouring town of Saint Paul de Vence, is situated amidst the beautiful hilly scenery west of Nice.

It has drawn artists both well known and amateur, and a special attraction is Matisse’s Chapel, a short walking distance from the old town. Another is the Chagall painting in the Cathedral.

There is a wide range of shops, restaurants and markets in the historical old part of the town, and the apartment is situated adjacent.

The Mediterranean beaches of Nice, Antibes and Cannes are close by.

Tennis, golf and other sports facilities are nearby, as well as a local outdoor swimming pool from May - Sept.

With its close proximity to the hilly countryside, this makes the apartment an ideal base for those who enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling.

Within easy reach of Nice, its international airport and all that the Cote d’Azur has to offer.

It was great in all respects. The only cloud has been having to return to London periodically on business. The garden is a triumph at this time of year &ndash Mr B. from Somerset, Apr & May 11.

The Old Savonnerie is located in a very nice spot - adjacent to the old town of Vence - and surrounded by a beautiful garden. The appartments - and we had a chance to have a look at a few - are lovingly decorated. They also offer all the kitchen equipment you need. The owners are amiable hosts. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Ms H. from Cologne, Oct 08.

The position of the house, the garden and the accommodation were absolutely superb. The owners and the concierge were friendly and helpful. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Mr C. from Kent, Oct 07.

Very comfortable. The position was wonderful for an easy holiday spot. We may well consider staying again. Car parking was a little difficult somedays, but was managed with good grace. Everything was very well done. Thank you very much - Mrs & Mrs S. from West Sussex, August 07.

We both enjoyed the holiday and the accommodation was excellent , may we thank you on your recommendations and assistance. The only drawback being, we had to leave and come home, a month or even longer would have been ideal.....I can assure you that we will be back on to you at some stage for accommodations and recommendations - Mr G from Cheshire, June 07.

Wow! Super fantasic, beyond our expectaions! Glorious! The apartment was just fantastic! The caretaker was very helpful and caring too. Lunches on the terrace will always be warmly remembered. Thank you to you, the owners and caretaker! P.S. We will be back! - Mrs B. from Indiana, USA, Nov 06.
