Property Description
Gite St Sophie is perfect if you’re looking for calm, tranquillity, open space and ‘real Provence'.
It sits in a lovely location, at the end of a farm track, surrounded by 7 hectares of vineyards. Throughout the year the landscape and colours change and the in summer the vines come right up to the terrace of your gite.
The Gite is a traditional building with a large and welcoming dining kitchen, a cosy living room and interesting ‘millers’ stairs that lead up to double bedroom. You may find it hard to get out of bed in the mornings as from a horizontal position you can look out of the bedroom window and admire the fantastic view of the Luberon hills.
There is a 8 x 4 m private pool, adjacent to the Gite, ideal for cooling off and admiring the views of the surrounding countryside. The pool is protected by an alarm.

About the local area
Despite its quiet location, your gite is only a short drive from the town of Pertuis where you'll find shops, bars, cafés and supermarket
If you fancy a more rural approach to shopping, there are some great local Paysan Markets. Every day of the week, in a host of villages nearby, local growers gather to sell their produce; Springtime brings fresh strawberries, green and white asparagus, cherries in May and June, with tomatoes olives garlic and courgettes all grown locally and available practically all year round.
The winding roads of the Luberon, with spectacular views, are great to explore and you'll find lots of charming villages (Gordes, Menerbes, Maubec, and Bonnieux) on the doorstep.
If you are feeling energetic, the hills around the gite have some great cycling and walking tracks, there are tennis courts available in Pertuis and this area is perfect for climbing and golf.
If visiting is your thing, you really are spoilt for choice. From the Roman architecture at Arles, the Palace of Popes at Avignon, and the cultured avenues of Aix en Provence to the local vineyards, the Carmargue National Park and the Regional Park of the Luberon, there really is too much to do in one visit.
The sea is under an hour away, with the beautiful Callanques of Marseille to explore as well as any number of the local fishing ports you can find on the coast.
REVIEWS
The gite was situated on a very beautiful 'estate'. It was peaceful, private, and full of rustic character. The pool and gardens were wonderful! Local produce from the owner who was so very helpful and spoke excellent English.
The information and photos were very accurate and so the accommodation was exactly as expected.
We had the most lovely holiday - thank you!

We had the most fantastic relaxing holiday at this wonderful gem of a gite. Beautiful location and great accommodation. Marvellous swimming pool. The host is an excellent host. Very amiable and also discreet so he never intrudes. We loved his little dogs. What an absolute joy the whole time was. We would love to go back again and very much hope to do so. Thank you for your hospitality.
IS July 2023
The hosts were very kind, very discreet, of Belgian origin and we got along really well.
We had to cut our stay short given the terrible weather (4 days of sunshine out of 7), and chose to return to Belgium.
The swimming pool is very good, with a very nice view, the farmhouse too, rustic but you have everything.

We had a great holiday relaxing and enjoying the superb views from the gite, we loved the rustic charm of the gite which had everything we needed. The outside area is very private and quiet and the pool very refreshing and with great views. The owners and especially Jean Louis were very welcoming and helpful but also very discrete giving us full privacy. The gifts of home grown produce from Marielle`s garden were very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend Gite St Sophie for a very relaxing peaceful holiday. We hope to return soon.

Maison très agréable, discrétion des propriétaires. Calme absolu, l`environnement et la piscine sont des plus appréciables.
Very pleasant house, discretion of the owners. Absolute calm, the environment and the swimming pool are most appreciable.
E, France, August 2020
We had an excellent week, in the calm, in the sun, by the pool ... The house is perfect for a week of lazing around and the owner is very pleasant.
A, France, 2020
Cosy rural little house with all amenities necessary and a refreshing private pool with pool beds and big umbrella. Friendly reception by the owners, who are available but very discrete. The holiday home is on their property but due to the distance and vegetation between both houses you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Pertuis - which is only a few minutes away by car - is a nice little town with some good restaurants and bars and everything else you need for "survival"
Mr R, Netherlands, 2020
The cottage is wonderful and the owner even more so. We loved the place, the gîte and the atmosphere. Special thanks to the two 4-legged companions who were our children`s best friends during this week ... to recommend and of course we will be back
M.D, July 2020
Thank you!
It is pure bliss!!

Well equipped, entertainingly furnished little house in a gorgeous location with owners who were very welcoming, helpful and discreet.
The staircase might be difficult for the elderly or infirm
MG, from UK, Sept 2018
Our stay in Gite St Sophie was a wonderfully relaxing time, with a very well equipped property.
JL and Marielle were excellent hosts, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome - from a chilled bottle of his excellent wine when we arrived inviting us to join their poolside party with all their friends quickly resolving any little problems that cropped up and being very respectful of our privacy.
The millers stairs took a little getting used to, but were perfectly fine. If you`re not steady on your feet, the stairs would make this not the property for you. We left one of the bedside lights on downstairs overnight to make it easier to go up and down without having to turn the lights on upstairs.
The location is slightly out of town, which makes having a car almost essential. The HyperU in Pertuis was very close and well equipped for whatever you`d want.
Great places to visit include: Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Mont Ventoux, Lourmarin, Cucuron, Ansouis, Bonnieux, Avignon, Arles and the Camargue, and Marseille.

What was the best feature of the accommodation you stayed in?
Where it is, the pool, the house, its symplicity
I think you are great in having personal contact. Keep it that way
JCD, Netherlands, July 2018
Very pleasant place. Simple, nice, quiet.
Mr A, France, July 2018
The service was great!
The gite was wonderfull! Even better than we expected. Amazing views, very peacefull and enough shade. The kids especially enjoyed the pool for hours on end! The airconditioning was a great plus.
Jean-Louis was very friendly and always helpfull.
We had an amazing time in the Provence: Aix is great, Marseille was lovely, great little villages nearby (Cucuron was our favorite, very beautifull and excellent rosé-wine). But we have the best memories of the Calanques!! We hiked through two of them. Not easy but so rewarding!!
AB, from Belgium July 2019
We had a fantastic week at Gite St Sophie during July 2018. The location is very peaceful with excellent access to the Luberon mountain range and it`s `Beau Villages`. Ansouis in our view was the nearest and the best.
Property is close to Petruis for its supermarkets and only 30 minutes from Aix de Provence which is definitely worth a visit on Thursday Market day.....but set off early!
Jean Louis was a great host. On hand if you needed it but gives you the privacy and seclusion if required.
As the weather was 30 degrees plus for the whole week the Air Conditioning, particularly in the bedroom was a godsend.
Mr and Mrs B, UK, July 2018
We loved the pool after a hot day exploring the villages, the isolation in the the vineyards, easy access to town if needed, a bottle of wine from our hosts.
Mrs B, Australia, June 2018
We had another really great stay at Gite St Sophie. The cottage is as lovely as ever and we ended up spending most of the week relaxing at home.
Please can we book the Gite for next year?
CEH, UK, June 2018
Excellent and perfect : a haven of quiet surrounded by vineyards, a nice swimming pool and a large garden unoverlooked. The house is nicely decorated and confortable (air conditioning in each room).
Moreover the owner is discrete, very friendly and take care of our well-being.
We will keep in mind this rental for future holidays, and fully recommend it!
Mr C, August 2017
Great! Privacy, safety and the amenities were very good. We appreciated that the owners were there if we needed them but that they respected our privacy. Booking again for 2018!
Ms E, UK, July 2017
Notre séjour c"est très bien déroulé, nous avons passé d"excellentes vacances.
Le gite St Sophie correspond bien à la description, mais avec des plus, ce qui est une agréable surprise.
Mrs N, France, July 2017
Returned from Provence and had a lovely time.Gite ideal and no complaints at all apart from stairs being difficult as we expected.Anyway caused a few laughs and with photos taken, particular of trapdoor in bedroom,a good talking point at social events.Owner most obliging with any of our questions regarding the area and was not intrusive at any time.Made friends with his dog and cats also.In all most relaxing with fantastic views as we sat around the pool at leisure .In all most enjoyable would recommend.
Mr T, UK, June 2017
Rustic and charming, well functioning kitchen, nice landlords.
Mrs L Denmark, April 2017
The gite was very cute, very well maintained and in a great location. Facilities were just right. Air conditioning was a big help in the hot weather. The pool was larger than expected which was great. And the owners were very friendly and accommodating and referred us to a few excellent restaurants throughout our stay. We would recommend it in a heartbeat.
Mr M,CAMBS, August 2016
Lovely and peaceful and very private
Mr C, Essex, July 2016
Excellent, pretty much as advertised. Communication was excellent, you answered our questions (in particular regarding the availability to hire owners bicycles), excellent and would happily recommend.
Mr R, Oxfordshire, June 2016
We had a lovely time so thank you. It worked well and the accommodation was excellent.  The owners were lovely and welcoming and respected our privacy.   Core things were very good.  Bathroom clean and good.  Lots of hot water and bed lovely and comfy.  Stairs to bedroom were a challenge that we enjoyed and giggled over especially going for a wee in the early hours.  Stairs very steep! We were fine with that but others may struggle a bit.  Cups  a bit chipped, again fine for us as it is home from home, but others may have an issue.
I think my only comment would be lack of information in the accommodation about how great Pertuis is as a town with a really good market and lovely walks so close by.  We went to the tourist information centre who gave us great tips for local walks and drives to nearby villages that were gorgeous.  We left their information in the house but I think you could say more about the stunning places to visit so close by as well as a tip to say how helpful and useful it is to go to the tourist information centre.
C & M, Wiltshire, UK June 2016
Excellent - lovely accommodation, swimming pool and location. Nice owner who was not intrusive and sorted out a couple of minor problems quickly. Perfect for those who want seclusion but within easy reach of local amenities. However, we did not like the stairs even though we expected something steep ! These would be a problem for anyone with any kind of mobility problem.
Mr C, Surrey, July 2015
Tres satisfait!
Miss C,  France, August 2015

We had another brilliant week at gite st sophie. a very peaceful setting in the vineyard and a great location to explore the surrounding villages. This time the owners home made rose was ready to drink and delicious!
C & O, London, July 2013

Very nice property. the stairs were a little daunting, otherwise everything fine. Our host was super and booked restaurants for us but an information booklet on the local restaurants /walks/where to rent a bicycle would have made things a lot quicker to get stuck into our holiday. otherwise fine.
Mr B, Dublin, June 13
We loved the gite it exceeded the photos online! The owners were welcoming and helpful, but discreet. The pool was perfect.
Ms S, Cambs, UK, August 2011.
We really liked it and the gite was ideal for my husband and I for a week `s holiday. The cottage is cute and had everything we needed. Well situated for sightseeing. We liked being in the middle of nowhere as it was very quiet. The owner Jean Louis is very friendly and fascinating to talk too. There was a problem with the pool as there was a major storm on our first night which transformed the pool into muddy green water but JL dealt with it promptly and with a good sense of humour. The only thing we did not like is that there is no security barrier in the bedroom around the stair area and it would be so easy to fall and seriously injure yourself! Every else was great and we will no doubt go back again.
Mrs E, Berks, UK, August 2011.
We have spent excellent holidays better than we expected. It was the quiet retreat we hoped with a beautifil view on the " montagne sainte victoire " and the vine yards. We loved this self catering and the surrounding area of Luberon. We would like to come back there another time.
Mr L, July 2011.
Excellent, better than we expected. We loved the gite!
Miss O, London, July 2011
We were pleased with it. I had doubts about your company because you are not ABTA registered but these were unfounded. The property wouldn`t be to everyone`s taste as it was rustic but it was in a beautiful setting and provided all we needed for 2 people. The owners were helpful. We felt it was a proper French experience rather than a posh villa on an estate. The views could be made more of in the blurb. The stairs were quite scary! Pertuis has little to offer but the South Luberon was lovely and an area we didn`t know. We had an excellent holiday.
Mrs W, Bucks, UK, June 2011
Overall simple but very good, access to upstairs rather precarious. Owners very welcoming & helpful.  Very satisfied.
Mr W, Arundel, West Sussex, September 2010

The Gite was lovely, and the private pool was a big surprise. Aircon would not have gone amiss, and we understand that will be put in this autumn
Mrs B,  Zuid-Holland, August 2009

Superb. Very well equipped, beautiful location, very friendly owners who respected our privacy whilst also making it clear they were available to help.
Mr L, Tunbridge Wells, UK, July 2008
Lovely place, exactly as described - owners friendly, available, yet discreet - brilliant privacy (which is just what we were looking for) - we were always alone at the swimming pool and it felt as if it was our private one, just for us! (by the way, the "short walk" to the pool as described on your web page really WAS a very short walk... thought it would be further, so a nice surprise) - extremely clean - everything we could hope for was available. The only negative - bed was bit hard but we loved the place!
Ms M, Geneva, September 2007
Excellent accommodation and nice location.
Mr C, Warrington, UK, September 2007
Very nice. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful.
