About the local area

Vence is an artist’s town and along with its equally well-known neighbouring town of Saint Paul de Vence, is situated amidst the beautiful hilly scenery west of Nice.

It has drawn artists both well known and amateur, and a special attraction is Matisse’s Chapel, a short walking distance from the old town. Another is the Chagall painting in the Cathedral.

There is a wide range of shops, restaurants and markets in the historical old part of the town, and the apartment is situated adjacent.

The Mediterranean beaches of Nice, Antibes and Cannes are close by.

Tennis, golf and other sports facilities are nearby, as well as a local outdoor swimming pool from May - Sept.

With its close proximity to the hilly countryside, this makes the apartment an ideal base for those who enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling.

Within easy reach of Nice, its international airport and all that the Cote d’Azur has to offer.

Overall opinions of the accommodation were excellent. The best feature was the views - Mr B. from Ireland June 18

The best feature of the accommodation was the location. Overall opinion of the accommodation was very good - Mr O. from Connecticut October 17

I loved the apt - the location and the yard. When I was in St Paul de Vence 15 years ago I took french speaking classes at the cultural centre up the road and would never had thought that I would stay so close by the next time I returned. That was a nice surprise when I arrived! I would have liked to have played boules in the yard but ran out of time. The out door fireplace and sitting area looked very inviting but again we rain out of time. I loved unshuting the windows every morning. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Ms M. from Vancouver, Oct 13.

The accomodation was very suitable for our needs (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied, the feedback to any questions or problems was timely and information supplied, sufficient. - Mrs M. from Germany, Oct 13.

A very comfortable, quiet and well equiped apartment for 2 people, convenient to old town centre. Relaxing outdoor areas and very hospitable hosts. The information provided before our stay by Paul Rhodes at Joie de Vivre was excellent and very accurate. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Mr A. from Australia, June 13.

Absolutley idyllic setting and well presented property. The owner was a very warm and helpful host. The only thing that would have been nice is maybe a welcome pack (some water/wine/beer) on arrival. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Mr W. from Sydney, July 09.

Excellent. Just right for a few days away and ideal for a couple. Nicely placed for strolling round the locality. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Mr W. from Worcestershire, Mar 09.

Great location. Beautiful setting. Very good accommodation. Just as the website indicated. If and when we return to Vence I think we would like to stay in the same place. Milan was so very friendly and helpful. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Ms H. from New South Wales, Oct 08.

We had the most fantastic week in THE OLD SAVONNERIE 3. The owners were absolutely delightful hosts and the accommodation was superb with its light and airy apartment and stunning gardens.  We enjoyed wandering in the Old Cite, having `cafe creme` while enjoying the amazingly talented buskers, purchasing some bargains in the colourful markets and just watching the world go by.  The Old Savonnerie was also perfectly located for expeditions into the wider environments of Monaco, Antibes & Cannes with its beautiful Iles and St Paul de Vence.  The walks around Vence were also something we greatly enjoyed.  All in all, I couldn`t recommend The Old Savonnerie more highly. Thank you for making the arrangements for us - Ms B. from Western Australia, Aug 08.

Fabulous, we had everthing we needed and more..the owners were so helpful and so kind. (How satisfied were you with the property ?) Very Satisfied - Mrs E. from New South Wales, Dec 07. Very good. Well appointed and a beautiful setting. (How satisfied were you with the property?) Very Satisfied - Mr P. from East Sussex, Aug 07.

We stayed at the Old Savonnerie for 7 weeks while I completed a language course and the total accommodation package was absolutely faultless! I couldn`t recommend the accommodation highly enough. The standard of the accommodation was first class, the location was wonderful and the service was extremely helpful and friendly. The owners spoke English, French and German fluently which was extremely useful to all the residents. "Milan" the caretaker who managed the property for the majority of our stay was exceptional and overall both my wife and myself couldn`t have been treated with more consideration and help during our stay. Without doubt this is the best holiday we have ever had and we highly recommend it to anyone who would like to relax in luxurious and friendy surroundings in such a beautiful part of the world - Mr M from Wiltshire, April 07.

...we had a super time in Vence, the apartment was lovely, thank you for all your help in booking it - Miss W. from London, Sept 06.

Excellent gite - beautiful location, clean and ideal for going into the Alps in the day but with all facilities needed in the town. Lovely gardens and views from the gite - dual aspect windows in the bedroom very nice - Miss L. from Derbyshire, Oct 06.
