About the local area

Cereste is sited in the southwest corner of the Alpes-des-Haute-Provence, inside the National Park of the Luberon, known in Roman times as Catuiaca.

Part of the great roman road the via Domitia, can be seen nearby, in fact there are plenty of roman artefacts in the area.

The village was formerly fortified and the ruins of the walls are still there. There is a choice of bars plus cafes to sit outside, drink café au lait with croissants or perhaps an aperitif. So whether you fancy, having a barbecue, or a meal out, the choice is conveniently yours with several restaurants, butchers and grocery stores.

The walking and cycling options are amazing; all you need to do is literally step outside your door.

There is tennis, horse riding, and a golf course 20kms away.

This area is where lavender grows, so if you come in the flowering season, bring your camera, your paint brush, or just absorb the stunning colours, and scent. Not too far away is the popular lavender museum in Coustellet.

Visit the surrounding hilltop villages, whose narrow streets, stone houses, and coloured shutters capture the ambience of Provence, The larger towns of Avignon and Aix en Provence all can be reached by car

Markets are a way of life in Provence, a place to find delicious cheeses, sausages, in season fruit, cherries, melons, peaches, apricots, fresh vegetables, as well as being a social event for the locals. There are many to choose from with Cereste or Apt being the nearest.

The nearest supermarket is the hypermarket in Apt, 15kms away.
