This charming old villa with sunny gardens is set in the hillside in a quiet area of Vence and is one of my favourites!
Villa Lavande is tastefully furnished, with a large living/dining room, well-equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a lovely sunny terrace bordered by lavender, extensive lawned gardens and private parking.
The villa is located in a quiet neighbourhood to the west of Vence town centre, and is approximately 30 minute walk from the town and all of its amenities.
This is a lovely place in which to base yourselves to relax, enjoy the old town of Vence, go walking or cycling in the hills or explore the many attractions of the Cote d’Azur.
This charming old villa comprises of entrance hall, opening into a spacious dining room with table and chairs, a tastefully furnished living room with fireplace, television, video, DVD & Hi-Fi and French doors opening out onto a dining-terrace with table and 6 chairs.
There is a small, but very well equipped kitchen with oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. There is also a washing machine within a downstairs cloakroom.
From the dining room there is a good-sized double bedroom with wardrobes and other antique furniture, and this bedroom has an elegant en-suite shower room with marble fittings and a WC.
From the living room there is an L-shaped bedroom/study, which has a single sofa bed. It is also possible to add a temporary foldaway bed to this room, suitable for children (please request). The downstairs cloakroom, with WC and hand basin, serves this bedroom.
Independent from the main house, there is a twin bedroom accessed via a staircase outside the front door. This room is ideal for those who want to have separate sleeping quarters e.g. teenagers, grandparents, or au pair. This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower over a bath, toilet and hand basin, and it also has views towards the sea.
There are 2 baby-cots and a high chair available at this villa.
Outside, there are beautiful lawned gardens of approximately 1,100 square metres, bordered by lavender and Mediterranean plants and trees. The gardens are private, very peaceful and enclosed for children to play in. There is also a pretty wooden garden house with table and chairs. Please note: the owners do not permit barbeques in the garden here, as they consider them to be too much of a fire risk.
There is a garage and parking for 2 cars.
Internet connection is available here for your laptop via Wi-Fi and ADSL.
End-of-stay cleaning: has been priced separately, so if you are staying for more than 1 week you are not paying in duplicate. It is 50 Euros and is paid directly to the owner.
Bed & bathroom linen: has been priced separately here to give you the option to take your own (or in case the number of people in your party is less than the number of places). If you wish to hire these, they are available for 20 Euros per single bed and 30 Euros per double, paid directly to the owner.
Winter heating is at an additional cost (please ask for details).
In France, it is necessary to pay a “Taxe de Séjour” at the end of your stay. On this property it is 0.70 Euros per day, per person over 12 years of age.
The owner requests a damage deposit of 500 Euros on arrival, or in advance by way of a credit card guarantee with JDV, and this will be refunded to you at the end of your stay, less the replacement cost of any breakages.
Pets are permitted at this villa on request.
About the local area
Vence is an artist’s town and along with its equally well-known neighbouring town of Saint Paul de Vence, is situated amidst the beautiful hilly scenery to the west of Nice.
It has drawn artists both well known and amateur, and a special attraction is “Matisse’s Chapel”, just a short walking distance from the beautiful old-town. Another is the “Chagall painting” in the Cathedral.
There is a wide range of shops, restaurants, boulangeries and markets in the town centre of Vence and Villa Lavande is situated approximately 2.5 km away. It is possible to walk from the villa to the town, which takes approximately 30 minutes via a shortcut (please note: this route is unlit and uphill on the return). There is also a 3-screen cinema in the town.
The Mediterranean towns of Nice, Antibes and Cannes are all close by where you can enjoy a day on the beach, or visit the ports.
Tennis, golf, equitation, and water sports are all nearby, as well as a local outdoor swimming pool from May - Sept.
With its close proximity to the surrounding hilly countryside, the villa is an ideal base for those who enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling. The region is also well served by ski-stations in the winter, some of which can be reached within an hours drive.
The villa is within easy reach of Nice International Airport and all that the Cote d’Azur has to offer.
