Spacious and attractive 2nd floor, 3-bedroom, apartment in a quiet location in Carcassonne - with views over the river and public gardens to the Medieval City.  Sleeps 6 + a baby. Ideal for seeing the fantastic 14th July fireworks display......a car is not necessary - 12 minutes walk to the Medieval City!  Free transfers from and to Carcassonne airport often possible, please enquire!

Close to the Vieux Pont (Old Bridge) that crosses the River Aude and just a 10/15-minute walk to the fascinating medieval City of Carcassonne, this spacious 2nd floor apartment of 100 sq.m. is in a large traditional fully-renovated town house.  Ten minutes walk in the other direction brings you into the heart of the Bastide St Louis - Carcassonne's 'newer' town commissioned in 1260 AD and with a lovely, vibrant main square - Place Carnot.

A hire car isn't always necessary here as a free transfer from Carcassonne Airport can normally be arranged for you with prior notice. However should you want to hire a car, there are free car parking spaces just a few minutes walk away.

With high ceilings, large windows, spacious rooms, and comfortable furniture you'll find this apartment bright and airy.  It is decorated in the French style. There's a sitting/dining room with large windows which fill the room full of light.  This room has a dining table and chairs, a comfortable sofa and armchairs and a television. Internet access is available.

The modern, well-equipped dining kitchen has all facilities and you'll find a small welcome pack on arrival.

There are 3 bedrooms; one double, and two twin rooms and a bathroom and a further separate WC.

Through the windows of the main living area and the master double bedroom,  you can enjoy the lovely view over the River Aude to the Medieval City beyond.

The location of this property allows you to walk freely to both the Medieval city and the Bastide St Louis where you'll find shops, supermarkets, cafe-bars, restaurants, banks etc.

Carcassonne has been the backdrop to a number of films such as 'Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves' and is the setting for 'Labyrinthe' the successful novel by Kate Mosse.  The medieval city is indeed a fairy tale location with lots to see and do, with festivals in July and August each year, concerts by top stars, and a fabulous firework display on Bastille Day, the 14th July.  In December, in the Bastide St Louis, there's a great Christmas market. The Canal du Midi also passes through the town offering the opportunity for walks or a boat trip on this fascinating waterway built in the mid-1600's.

The bastide area of Carcassonne is full of interesting architecture and is rich in history dating from the 13th century. Just relax and have a coffee or a glass of wine in the sun-drenched main square enjoying the French art de vivre.

Activities: You can swim in the public outdoor swimming pool open in the summer months - it's just a short walk away. There's also the  'Lac de la Cavayere', a lake with a beach that's safe for swimming and nature reserve - it takes approximately 10-15 minutes by bus to get there. Strolling or cycling along the Canal du Midi watching the boats pass by is very enjoyable. Carcassonne also has a golf course if you fancy a round of golf.

Sightseeing: Your can certainly spend lots of time in the City itself visiting the Chateau Comtal, the ramparts, the Museums etc. If you are hiring a car, the Mediterranean beaches are less than 1 hour's drive away.  They can also be reached by train to Narbonne and then by bus to the coastal resorts.  In the region around Carcassonne you can also visit the Cathar castles, Rennes-le-Chateau, the medieval towns of Foix and Mirepoix, the giant caves at Cabrespine and Limousis, the Montagne Noir, and area of outstanding natural beauty, and the fantastic African nature reserve at Sigean.

Market: Carcassonne has a great market, full of colourful, local produce in Place Carnot  on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Restaurants:  There are many in the city to suit all budgets and tastes. Joie de Vivre can make some recommendations for you.

Supermarket and Shopping: The local supermarket is a 5-minute drive away and, for the ladies, both the bastide area of Carcasonne and the medieval city have some lovely, interesting and individual shops.
