PROPERTY DETAILS

Property Description

This lovely spacious sunny villa is located in a residential area towards to the edge of the little town of Sigean, just 5 kms from the sea.   It has a large well-maintained private garden, terrace and delightful swimming pool.

Sigean is an attractive town with a variety of shops, cafe-bars and restaurants and a weekly market. It has lots of history. Hannibal is said to have passed through there on his way to Italy in the 3rd century B.C.  Just 2 kms from the town is a coastal lagoon teeming with birdlife such as pink flamingos.

The villa is about 165 sq.m. in size and comprises a recently upgraded lounge and dining room (pictured), a kitchen, 4 bedrooms (3 with double beds and 1 with twin beds), one bathroom, two shower rooms and two separate WC's.  Although there are 4 bedrooms, the owner prefers to let to a maximum of 6 people (+ a baby) only.

Outside is a terrace leading out into the lovely private well-maintained garden towards the swimming pool.

An unusual and rather lovely feature of the garden is an ancient olive oil mill.  For children there are swings and ping pong and for adults, an area for playing boules.

About the local area

Sigean, the local town just a few minutes walk, has a small supermarket, a boulangerie, shops, cafe-bars, restaurants and a bi-weekly market so you don't have to go far for your day-to-day needs.  Narbonne, 15 kms away, is much larger and is a lovely town to visit with its bustling squares, narrow streets and the Canal de la Robine.

Sporting Activities: Available locally are tennis, fishing, horse-riding, swimming, all types of watersports - wind-surfing, kite-surfing, mountain biking and cycling.  Many of the local beaches are Blue Flag beaches, very clean and generally supervised by life guards in July and August.

Sightseeing: There's lots to do around Sigean without necessarily having to go too far e.g. children will love the African Nature Reserve, just outside the town, with over 3000 different species of animals.  A day trip there involves a drive through in the morning, lunch, and then seeing the small animals on foot in the afternoon. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the Etang de Bages lagoon to watch the flamingos and other birds which visit this large stretch of water.  Other good days out: Narbonne, the Canal du Midi, Carcassonne, the Fortresse de Salses, the lovely city of Perpigan and the beautiful Cote Vermeille with its lovely town of Collioure.  A day trip to Spain is easily possible as the border is only 30 minutes drive away!

Markets: There's a market in Sigean on a Tuesday and Friday morning, and much larger markets in Narbonne on a Thursday and Sunday.  Narbonne has a renowned indoor food market in Les Halles which is open every morning of the year.

Restaurants: There are a number of small restaurants in Sigean and various pizzerias.  A wide variety of restaurants including one with a Michelin star can be found in Narbonne.

Supermarket: There's a supermarket in Sigean and larger ones such as Geant as you enter the town of Narbonne.

Lovely house and pool, both spotless. Both secluded down a short driveway with electric gates at the front. We don't have children but it would be very safe for them to play unattended. Town 10 minute walk and two large supermarkets within 10 min drive. Locals all very welcoming especially bar in town on the main corner and lady in pizza bar, great pizza's made to order and wonderful bakery with amazing bread and pastries., Home owner met us on site and even took us (we followed her car) to the main supermarket. SD July 2016.
The grounds at Villa Turquoise are spacious, the villa itself comfortable, very well equipped; the beds comfortable and it was clean all around.  Dr H. Newfoundland, June 2014.
