General Description

  • Nestled under the rocky outcrops of the Alpilles hills is the beautiful old village of Aureille. Maison St Maxime, a completely renovated and yet traditional village house, can be found in the heart of this village, a stones throw away from the old communal washhouse!

  • Downstairs the living space is open plan, with a great stone fireplace in the corner. The owners have managed to steer well clear of chintz, keeping a simple and stylish theme throughout.

  • There's a dining/lounge area (good for 6 people) with a sofa bed and a fully equipped kitchen area.

  • Upstairs, the theme continues in the two bedrooms, one double and one twin. You may have to fight for the twin room as it has French doors (of course!) leading on to a great terrace.

  • If you're willing to share the terrace, it can also be accessed directly from the corridor upstairs as well as the bedroom.

The Local Area

  • Slap bang in the middle of the stunning Alpilles range of hills (big hills!)

  • Being in the village you have the boulangerie, cafes, restaurants etc on your doorstep.

  • If activity is your thing, there's loads to do; explore the footpaths and cycle routes criss-crossing this spectacular limestone scenery, there's horse riding, immaculate Golf courses and some of the best climbing areas in France (Orgon, Mauries, Fontveille and Aureille).

  • If it’s a bit of nature you crave, you have the Carmargue National Park, famous white horses and miles of wild-bird inhabited marshland (including flamingos !).

  • If its culture you're after, don’t miss Saint Remy de Provence for its Roman architecture and the fortified hill top village of Les Baux de Provence (the 2nd most visited site in France).
