General Description

  •  An 18th century mansion, beautifully restored by its Anglo-French owners, in the heart of one of the most unspoilt areas in France might sound too good to be true, but  if you are looking for a holiday to relax, or a perfect base to explore the unforgettable landscape this  location is exceptional.
  • Off the beaten track this distinguished house is divided into three - a romantic gite for two, another for 6 with the option of an additional bed in the twin-bedded room and the owner’s accommodation. The mansion has a backdrop of woodland and fields - due to its site on a hill - there is a captivating panorama of countryside, hamlets and a castle in the nearby valley.
  • All the rooms have been decorated in a pretty English style with a Gallic twist, practicality and comfort as always in the forefront of the property owners mind.
  • The rooms are light and airy with the fixtures and fittings being predominately antique, creating a pleasant and inviting mood. Maison St Madelaine is situated on two levels with an individual sitting room, an impressive vaulted-ceiling dining room and upstairs are three bedrooms which are individually designed and have en-suite bathrooms.
  • Opening out onto a large garden with ancient lime trees, there is plenty of space for children to play or for the adults to sunbathe and unwind.  Ideal for outside dining whether a barbeque or picnic and of course trying the fantastic local wine.

The Local Area

  • A fifteen minute walk from the property brings you to the  picturesque village of Lasalle which lies on the ‘road of silk’, the main industry of this area for many years  In fact just a little bit further a field is the Museum of Silk in St Hippolyte du Fort - definitely worth a visit! Apart from the Olive Mills nearby there is the chestnut industry and its products which can be bought and tasted. Castles, museums and wineries can also be visited.
  • Visit the active town of Anduze, the gateway to the Cevennes region where the extraordinary Bambouseraie is located, home of 200 species of bamboo and other oriental plants which flourish in a garden planted in 1856 by a spice and silk trader.
  • What’s more the town boasts the most famous steam train of France which sets off on its adventure from here through stunning scenery to St Jean du Gard.
  • For spectacular Roman ruins, Nimes and Pont du Gard or Arles and Orange are out of this world.
  • The Camargue, a site of great natural beauty and sandy beaches for nature enthusiasts.
  • Hiking, horse riding, river rafting, fishing, swimming and bathing in fresh water-pools and waterfalls are 15 minutes away or how about the blue Mediterranean which is only an hour away
  • Markets are held somewhere practically every day in this region but be sure not to miss the following;  Anduze, St Hippolyte du Fort, Lasalle or a bit further away Uzes. All of these offer local delights.
