The Local Area

  • Local shops, restaurants, boulangeries and small supermarket can be found just 400 metres away, up on the ‘Col de Villefranche’. A further choice can be found just 1km away, down in the town of Villefranche, where there’s a fantastic array of local produce; you can dine along the quay-front watching the boats bobbing around; or amongst the maze of tiny streets in the old town - there’s something for every budget and taste. You’ll also find other cafes & restaurants nearby in the town’s yacht marina.

  • Local markets are held in the old-town square and also alongside the main road through Villefranche. Here you can choose from a colourful selection of fresh fruit, veg, olives, fish and local produce. There's also a ‘Brocante’ (flea market) held every Sunday where you can buy all sorts of artefacts and ornaments. A larger market can be found about 3km away in the famous ‘Cours Saleya’ in Nice

  • Sporting activities in the area are abundant – being near to the sea, fishing, water-sports, sailing and swimming are a favourite; you will also find tennis nearby and golf courses further afield.

  • Beaches can be found approximately 15 minutes’ walk away in the sandy bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer. It’s good for swimming and from here you get great south-facing views down the bay to the open sea.

  • The ski stations of Valberg, Isola 2000 and Auron are just over 1 hour’s drive away if you fancy a couple of day’s winter sports! You are also in close proximity to the mountains and hills of the Alpes Maritimes region here, which makes walking and cycling very popular.

  • Getting around is very easy - you have a good local bus network, with a small bus heading towards the village from close to the house. The trains which run along the coast from Cannes, Nice and Monaco stop at Villefranche-sur-Mer station just 1km away. A car is preferred at this location for a more enjoyable stay.

  • Sightseeing is endless; Villefranche is a beautiful 14th Century town set on one of the Cote d’Azur’s most charming, natural harbours and overlooking the exclusive peninsula of Cap Ferrat. Wandering through the warren of evocatively named tiny streets, broken up with steps, you get occasional glimpses of the sea. The houses are painted in a rainbow of Mediterranean colours. Apart from Villefranche, you are also ideally placed between Nice and Monaco to visit the most famous places on the Cote d’Azur. To the east there’s St Jean-Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, the medieval hilltop village of Eze, the principality of Monaco, Cap Martin and the town of Menton on the Italian border. To the west you have the coastal towns of Nice, Antibes and Cannes. Further inland you can visit the delightful towns and villages of Vence, St Paul-de-Vence, Valbonne, Biot and Mougins.

  • Other entertainment includes the water theme-park at Marineland near Antibes; the Old Town of Nice; The Promenade des Anglais; the Port of Nice; the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and the zoo on Cap Ferrat; casinos and shopping in Monaco; helicopter rides from Monaco; yacht marinas in Villefranche, St Jean-Cap-Ferratt and Beaulieu-sur-Mer; the outdoor cinema in Villefranche, and much, much more!
