General Description

  • In the heart of Limoux, above street level, in the sunny Cathar country of Languedoc Roussillon, you'll find this delightful studio apartment with a lovely roof terrace.  It's just a few steps from the main square, the boutique-style shops, the cafe-bars and the restaurants.  It's ideal for a couple. You can just walk  a very short distance into the town to take part in the 'cafe culture', watching the world go by and experiencing first hand the French art de vivre.
  • The apartment has been recently fully renovated and refurbished for your comfort.  It is tastefully decorated and furnished in keeping with the ambience of its surroundings and its location in a traditional building.  The layout comprises an open-plan living area with a double bed,  a really comfy sitting room, a dining area, a separate kitchen, a shower room and a great sun terrace with views over the pantile roofs.
  • The apartment is well-presented and is an ideal place to stay if you are exploring the Languedoc, en route to somewhere else, or just want a short break in the sunshine!  If you don't want to hire a car, you don't need to as, subject to availability, the owners can arrange to collect you from and deliver you back to Carcassonne airport so you can take advantage of the low cost airlines' special offers!
  • This studio apartment is on the 3rd, top floor of the building so is not for those who find stairs difficult. The stairs are wide and shallow and should not present a problem except perhaps to the elderly or infirm.  However, the climb is worth it as this charming studio apartment is a real delight when you walk through the door!

The Local Area

  • Limoux is an ancient, pretty, market town on the banks of the River Aude, in the department of Aude in Languedoc Roussillon and is about 25 minutes drive from Carcassonne Airport.  It has everything you would imagine a southern French market town would have: a lovely main square with a big fountain, an interesting galleried arcade of shops, cafe-bars and restaurants, a Friday market, museums and concerts and events almost all year round.
  • The Carnival of Limoux, known locally as the 'Fecos de Limoux', is a yearly event. In 2011 it starts on 10th January and ends on Sunday 10th April.  Most of the carnival events are on Saturdays and Sundays and take place in the main square - they are very colourful and interesting with all the participants in bright local costumes.  Additionally, there are other events and concerts right through the summer months.
  • Limoux is famous for Blanquette de Limoux, a delicious sparkling white wine - be sure to try it on your next visit!
  • Sports Facilities: include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, walking, cycling, kayaking, fishing, and in the winter months Limoux is just over 1 hour's drive from the nearest ski resort.
  • Sightseeing: you are really in a great location here for visiting Carcassonne and Mirepoix, both fascinating places. In Carcassonne head for the fairytale medieval city, the Carcassonne festival in July and August, and the Christmas market in December.  Mirepoix is one of the most stunning medieval bastide towns we have ever seen and makes for a lovely day out. For lovers of the mountains you can visit the Pyrenees and Andorra to the South and the Black Mountains to the North.  For those of you interested in the history of the Cathars, there are several Cathar Castles to visit as well as Rennes-le-Chateau for those of you interested in the Holy Grail stories.  The Mediterranan beaches are approximately a 90 minute drive away.
  • Markets: In Limoux the market is on a Friday morning.  There are other markets in Carcassonne and Mirepoix, as well as others in local villages.
  • Restaurants : Limoux has many cafe-bars and restaurants just a short walk away.
  • Supermarket: There's a small supermarket 300 metres from the apartment, and a larger one on the edge of town.

Facilities

  • Living Area: In the apartment there's a spacious and attractive living area with a comfortable king-size double bed, a sitting area with a cosy sofa and armchairs, lamps, side tables, and a TV receiving both French and English channels. A WiFi connection is available for use with your own laptop.
  • Dining Area: Next to the kitchen, this has a large farmhouse style dining table and 4 chairs.  All crockery is supplied.   A door from the dining area opens out onto the roof terrace.
  • Kitchen: The kitchen is separate and well-equipped with a cooker, oven, dishwasher and fridge, cutlery and utensils.  The use of the owners' washing machine is possible upon request.
  • Additional sleeping accommodation:  A Z-bed for a small child can be provided for an additional cost of 25 euros (or £ equivalent) per night.
  • Bathroom:  The fully tiled bathroom is also separate and comprises a large shower, a handbasin and a WC.  For stays of over 3 nights, towelling bathrobes are provided for you.
  • Additional Accommodation:  A further apartment will become available during 2011 - please enquire.
  • Outside: A very pleasant sun terrace overlooking the pantiled roofs of Limoux.  It is equipped with a table, 4 chairs, a parasol and a barbecue. Parking is available in the streets nearby or in one of the town's car parks.

  • Suitability note:  Please note this apartment is on the 3rd floor, so it may not be suitable for those who find stairs difficult.  The apartment is in the town so you may hear some noises associated with the daily life of a small French town - we do not believe they are obtrusive.
  • Internet: An internet connection is available via WiFi for use with your own laptop.
  • Telephone:  There is no landline telephone here, but mobile phone signals in the area are generally good.

  • Damage Deposit: The owners  do not currently ask for a damage deposit but ask you to be honest about any breakages which may occur during your stay.
  • Change Over Day: Completely flexible subject to availability. There is a minimum stay of 3 nights, except by special arrangement.
  • Short stays: are possible, subject to availability, and a minimum stay of 3 nights. The price per night in the Low Season is 70 euros, so a 3-night stay would be 210 euros, or the current equivalent in £'s sterling - please enquire for a firm price and availability. The price per night in the High Season is 80 euros, so 240 euros for a 3-night stay, or the equivalent in £'s sterling.
