Gite Régine
General Description
- Only 20 minutes drive from Carcassonne, Gite Regine is charming little spot.
- In a tranquil, rural landscape, it's ideal for a romantic getaway for two. Short stays are possible.
- Located in the lovely extensive grounds of a wine producing chateau, you can sit back and admire the stunning views over the vineyards to the hills beyond whilst sampling the delicious rose and red wines produced at this Chateau.
- This small gite comprises a living room with a fireplace, furnished with country-style furniture, and a double bed. There is a separate small kitchen and a shower room with WC.
- Outside, there's a terrace with a table and chairs and a barbecue for alfresco dining or relaxing with a book and plenty of space to walk around. Sun-loungers are provided by the fresh water bathing pool (see more details below).
- You are free to wander around the grounds and sit in the shade of the chestnut groves or under the many mature trees should you wish.
- Gite Regine is a perfect place if you are looking for a quiet, beautiful place to enjoy a peaceful, relaxing holiday away from it all.
The Local Area
- The local village of Salleles Cabardes is approximately 3kms away; and the stunning medieval city of Carcassonne just 15 kms away. The nearest boulangerie, restaurant/bar and grocery shop are 5 kms away - however breakfast can be provided for you for a small additional cost if you wish, please enquire.
- Sports Facilities: This is an ideal area if you are walkers, cyclists or motorcyclists. - locally you'll find the national walking route, the GR36. There's a trout pond for those who like fishing. You can also enjoy rock climbing, pot holing, and caving. There are golf courses at both Carcassonne and Mazemet.
- Sightseeing: There's much to see and do around here - the best attractions are: the Medieval city of Carcassonne (15kms), the Gouffre de Cabrespine - a gigantic underground chasm (truly not to be missed!) 5kms, the Cathar Castle at Lastours (5kms), Minerve (27kms), Caunes-Minervois (10kms), Limoux (34kms), Revel (37kms), Orlagues (48kms) and the Mediterranean beaches (40kms).
- Markets: Locally in Carcassonne on a Tuesday and Saturday, Caunes Minervois on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Trebes on Saturday - and a most wonderful market at Revel again on a Saturday.
- Restaurants: There's a wide selection in the local towns but the most famous restuarant is the Michelin star restaurant in Lastours - Le Puits du Tresor - just 5 minutes away by car.
- Supermarkets: The larger supermarkets are to be found in Trebes and Carcassonne.
Facilities
- Living/Dining Room/Sleeping Area: There's a pretty living area with a fireplace (logs provided) with two armchairs, a coffee table etc. Also in this area is a double bed with attractive bed linen, bedside tables with lamps, a table with 2 chairs, a cupboard and a dresser. There is no TV here so you may wish to take along your iPod or compact DVD player.
- Kitchen: The small kitchen is separate and fully fitted, equipped with a fridge, cooker, sink etc, sufficient to prepare meals for two.
- Bathroom: This is a shower room with a shower, washbasin, WC and a mirror
- Additional Accommodation: Within the chateau courtyard and grounds other guest accommodation is available, for example GITE CABARET.
- Outside: Outside the gite there's a small terrace with a table and chairs and two sun-loungers. The views from the terrace overlook the vines, the lovely village of Salleles Cabardes and towards the Montagne Noire. Near the bathing pool area there are further sun-loungers and a hammock. There is plenty of off road private parking and a bicycle shed.
- Bathing Pool: A lovely and unusual feature of this property! The bathing pool was originally a large pond used for irrigation in the 18th century. It has been fully restored and is fed by a freshwater spring and is now used for swimming. It is 26 metres long and is shared with the other guests. Please note it is NOT a modern swimming pool and we believe not ideal for young children. Guests are required to be fully responsible for themselves and their children if using this swimming facility.
- Internet: Internet access is available via the owners for checking flights etc.
- Wine: Rose and red wines are produced here on the estate. You are most welcome to a wine-tasting and to purchase the wine produced here.
- Telephone: There is no telephone here - sorry.
- Baby Facilities: A cot and a high chair are available upon request.
- Winter Heating: Logs are provided for the fire.
- Electric and Water: are included in the rental price.
- End of stay Cleaning: is included in the rental price.
- Bed and Bathroom Linen: are included in the rental price.
- Taxe de Sejour: is included in the rental price.
- Damage Deposit: the owners do not request a damage deposit but ask you to respect their property and report it if you break anything.
- Change Over Day: is completely flexible according to availability.
- Long weekend stays and mini breaks: There is a minimum stay of 2 nights. Please enquire for the rate per night.
- Pets: Pets are not permitted - sorry.
- Smoking: is not permitted - sorry.
How To Get There
- By Car: The chateau is located about 15 kms to the North of Carcassonne. The nearest autoroute exit is No: 23 on the A61.
- By Air: Carcassonne and Toulouse airports are the nearest serviced by Ryanair, and the latter by BA, EasyJet and Flybe. Beziers is the next nearest, serviced by Ryanair and Flybe. Other possible airports are Perpignan and Montpellier.
- By Train: Please click on the link to RAIL EUROPE on our Home Page for details of trains and ticket price to this region. The nearest railway station is Carcasonne. A car will be necessary if you are staying at this property.
