General Description

  • If you are searching for a lovely gite, ideal for 2 people, in a great location for exploring this part of the sunny Languedoc by car, bike or on foot, then this could be just the place for you.
  • The gite is on two levels and has a spacious double bedroom, a light and bright sitting/dining room, a bathroom with a large shower and a well-equipped kitchen.  Outside is a lovely terrace for relaxing with a book or a glass of wine.
  • Set in a quiet location in the attractive village of Villedubert and within 5-minutes walk of the Canal du Midi this property is comfortable, well-equipped, and air-conditioned in the summer months.
  • From the sun terrace there's a view towards the medieval city of Carcassonne and to the Pyrenees in the distance.
  • The owners live in a completely separate property on the other side of the garden.  They have a wealth of local knowledge should you need their help and advice but will respect your privacy otherwise.

The Local Area

  • Villedubert is a delightful, small village within 5-minutes drive of the lively canal port of Trebes.  Here you will find a wide variety of shops, cafe-bars and restaurants and the local market.  Boat trips on the canal are possible from here in the summer months.
  • Sports facilities: Just 5-minutes from the gite you can commence your walk through the vineyards or alongside the Canal du Midi watching the boats go through the lock at Villedubert; you can then continue your walk along the canal in either direction.  If you enjoy fishing, you can buy a licence locally and fish in the canal.  For cyclists, we can help you with mountain or road bike hire and the bikes can be delivered to the gite. Golfers can enjoy playing a round at the golf course in Carcassonne - about 15 minutes drive.  Watersports lovers will find all types available at the Mediterranean coastal resorts which are about a 40 minute drive away.  Swimmers can enjoy the open air pool in Carcasonne, the Mediterranean sea, or lake-swimming at Lac de la Cavayere or Lac du Jouarres - both just a short drive away.
  • Sightseeing: This is a great base for exploring the Languedoc region and wine-lovers will find numerous chateaux and 'domaines' offering wine-tastings. Whilst here, you can visit the medieval city of Carcassonne with its 52 fairytale turrets and also visit the ancient city of Minerve - a former Cathar stronghold, and Olonzac, a small town which is the 'capital' of the Minervois wine region.
  • Narbonne with its cathedral, archbishop's palace and famous indoor market, Beziers and the staircase of 9 locks on the Canal du Midi at Fontseranes, the abbeys of Fontfroide and Lagrasse, the Cathar castles and the beach resorts of Narbonne- and Gruissan- Plage are all well worth a visit. The Spanish border is only about a 90-minute drive away - so a day trip to Spain is possible too!
  • Markets:  The markets in the region are lively, colourful and full of fresh, seasonal produce.  Locally you'll find markets in Trebes and Carcassonne.
  • Restaurants: There are a number of restaurants locally in Trebes including one alongside the canal lock, and a wider variety to suit all budgets and tastes in Carcassonne.
  • Supermarket:  There is a supermarket in Trebes just a 5-minute drive, and several in Carcassonne.
