General Description

 

  • This character old "bergerie" (shepherds house) with pool, is set in a perfectly tranquil location near to the XII century village of Carros, high in the hills to the west of Nice. It has fantastic panoramic views to the mountains and the sea. It is steeped in history and has been tastefully furnished with wonderful antiques and artefacts.
  • It comprises of a spacious living room, a well-equipped dining kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 bath/shower rooms, a galleried landing, a large terrace, a shared swimming pool, beautifully landscaped gardens and parking for several cars.
  • There is also an option to rent any one of the 4 gites at this same location (please see “Gîtes des Chênes”).
  • The bergerie would be perfect for a small family, or group of friends.

The Local Area

 

  • “Bergerie des Chênes” is situated very close to the X11 Century, cliff top village of Carros, with its little pedestrian streets, immaculately kept houses, gift shop and restaurant. From here, you’ll get sweeping views down the Var River valley to the sea.
  • There are further shops, restaurants, boulangeries and a supermarket in the town of Gattieres, approximately 5km away.
  • Other surrounding towns to visit are Vence (15km), St Paul de Vence (20km), Nice (25km), and Cannes (38km).
  • There are local markets held in Nice, Vence and over the Italian border in Ventimillia.
  • There are many sporting activities in the area – golf, tennis, sailing, river bathing, kayaking, climbing, and fishing to name just a few.
  • With its close proximity to the surrounding, hilly countryside, this makes the apartment an ideal base for those who enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling. The region is also well served by ski-stations in the winter, some of which can be reached within an hours drive.
  • Other attractions in the region are the Carnival of Nice, The Cannes Film Festival, The Monaco Grand Prix, the International Jazz Festival of Nice, The Classical Sailing Boats race of Cannes & Antibes, the summer open-air Opera Festival of Gattieres and Marineland in Antibes.
  • The bergerie is also within easy reach of Nice International Airport and all that the Cote d’Azur has to offer.

 

Facilities

 

  • Living room: you enter this lovely old property through double doors, from the terrace, straight into the living room. A grand room, it has high ceilings, a fireplace (for winter), lots of lovely antique furnishings and artefacts, and an impressive staircase leading to a galleried landing upstairs. There is a TV (French), a HI-FI and a DVD player can be made available upon request.
  • Dining room: is within the kitchen for six people, and additionally you can dine outside on the terrace!
  • Kitchen: is a beautiful old farmhouse type kitchen with a double height ceiling and lots of old artefacts like copper pans hanging on the walls. It is very well equipped and has an oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher. There is a secondary staircase leading up to the master bedroom.
  • Utility room: is half way up the staircase and has a fridge, a freezer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board.
  • Bedrooms: there are 2 bedrooms at this lovely property. There is one twin/double bedroom on the ground floor with double doors opening out onto the terrace. There is also a huge master bedroom upstairs, with a king sized bed, lovely antique furnishings and a staircase leading down to the kitchen. For additional sleeping there are 2 single mattresses for the floor of the galleried landing.
  • Bathrooms: there is a shower room up some stairs, close to the ground floor bedroom, which has a shower cubicle, a WC and washbasin. There is also a large bathroom on the first floor, adjacent to the master bedroom, which has a charming antique suite comprising of a bath, washbasin, WC and bidet.
  • Other rooms: there is a large galleried landing upstairs, which has an antique writing desk, chaise long and windows with lovely views over the surrounding countryside - this makes an ideal office or second living room. There are 2 mattresses within storage cupboards, which pull out into this area for additional sleeping. There are also doors from here leading out to the back gardens.
  • Additional accommodation: there are 4 studio apartments at this location (see Gîtes des Chênes), which are suitable for 2 people each and are available to rent separately.
  • Outside: the beautiful gardens are private to this house, and make up just some of the 1.5 hectares on which it lies. With sloping terraces, oak and olive trees and a gurgling brook, you can sit and enjoy the peaceful views over the Var River valley. There are various pieces of garden furniture all around including a table and chairs on the large terrace, directly outside the front of the house. There is a carport and parking for several cars.
  • Swimming pool: there is a shared swimming pool of 12 x 6 metres, plus a children’s pool of 3.6 x 2metres. This is located approximately 100 metres up behind the house, adjacent to and shared with the 4 studio apartments also at this location.
  • Internet: connection is not available inside this property; however it is possible to capture the Wi-Fi signal just outside the house in the upper entrance/garden. The owners are trying to improve this further.
  • Telephone: is not available here – sorry.
  • Baby facilities: there is a baby cot and a high chair available upon request.
  • Winter heating: is included in the rental cost.
  • Gas, electric, & water: are all included in the rental cost.
  • End-of-stay cleaning: there is a charge of 90 Euros payable directly to the owners.
  • Bed & bathroom linen: is included in the rental for the number of people you have booked.
  • Taxe de Sejour: in France, it is necessary to pay a “Taxe de Séjour” at the end of your stay. On this property it is 0.65 euros per person, per day.
  • Damage deposit: The owner requests a damage deposit of 400 Euros/week on arrival. This will be refunded to you at the end of your stay, less the replacement cost of any breakages.
  • Change over day: is normally a Saturday but the owners may be flexible upon request.
  • Long weekend stays: are possible at this property upon request.
  • Pets: are permitted at this property upon request, but are not permitted around the pool area.

How To Get There

 

  • By Car – Carros Village lies in the hills to the west of Nice and can be easily accessed from the A8 Auto route and the N202.
  • By Air – Nice-Cote d’Azur is the nearest international airport, approximately 21 kilometres away. A car is a necessity for this location.
  • By Train – Eurostar runs from London to Paris city centres and then the high speed TGV service runs from Paris to Nice.
