General Description

• PLEASE NOTE: The studio is only available to rent if you are renting one of the other La Charmille Apartments at the same time.  It is for a maximum of 2 people, who must be either friends or family who are holidaying with you. The minimum rental period is 7 nights.
• What a pleasure it was for us to find these superb apartments in one of the sunniest parts of Languedoc Roussillon!  This apartment is one of 4 beautifully renovated architect-designed apartments in the private walled garden of a lovely 'maison de maitre' in the charming village of Nissan, just 10 kms from Beziers and a 25-minute drive from the nearest beach resorts on the Mediterranean coast.
• The apartments have been converted from the original stables and out-buildings of an imposing private house dating back to the 1800's and once belonging to a wealthy wine merchant.  The property is close to the centre of the village of Nissan, near to the beautiful historical church, and has private parking.
• The large garden is a peaceful haven of beauty and tranquillity for you to enjoy with gorgeous planting including centuries old plane trees, olive, fig and eucalyptus trees, lavenders, roses, oleanders, herbs - rosemary, thyme, sage and basil, and an ever-changing display from a wide variety of ornamental plants.  In fact, it's a gardener's and a bird-watcher's paradise!
• For cooling off in after a day's sight-seeing there's a large, secure, swimming pool, cleaned and maintained with great care and without the use of chemicals - sun loungers are provided. The pool is shared with the other guests here who number no more than 10-12 normally.
• La Charmille Studio - is a spacious double bedroom with a double bed, a table and 2 chairs.  There is a bathroom with a shower, a washbasin and a WC.  Included is a very small 'breakfast only' kitchenette, not suitable for cooking other meals.  The studio is especially suitable for friends or family (a maximum of 2 people) wishing to share a holiday with you whilst having their own bedroom and bathroom and thus a certain degree of indepedence.  

The Local Area

• The local village is Nissan-Lez-Enserune, and just a few steps away you will find a choice of boulangeries for morning bread and croissants, fresh food and vegetables, newspapers, a chemist and a bank with a cash machine.  The village has a small thrice-weekly market meaning you don't have to travel far if you don't want to!
• Sports Facilities: Walking and cycling especially along the banks of the Canal du Midi - we can recommend a local English-speaking bike hire company. Tennis and horse-riding.  All types of water sports at the coastal resorts: sailing, water ski-ing, diving, wind-surfing.
• Sight seeing: Nearby you have the 'Oppidum d'Enserune' - the site of an ancient hill village inhabited from the 6th century B.C. to the 1st century A.D. with its museum and artifacts, and also the interesting 'Etang de Montady', and of course the Canal du Midi and the Malpas tunnel. Further afield you can enjoy the lovely towns of Narbonne, Beziers and Carcassonne, the Cathar Castles, and the abbeys of Fontfroide and Lagrasse.  The beach resorts of Gruissan and St Pierre la Mer are just a short drive away and even a day trip to Spain is possible as the border is only 90 minutes drive away!
• Markets: The markets locally are colourful and interesting and full of fresh, local produce.  There's a small market 3 times a week in Nissan.  Furthermore, in the centre of Narbonne in 'Les Halles' you'll find a fascinating indoor food market which is open every day of the week until lunchtime - also a street market on a Thursday and a Sunday.  Other good local markets are in Olonzac on a Tuesday, and Lezignan Corbieres on a Wednesday.
• Restaurants: Nissan has a number of friendly bars, cafe-bars and restaurants just a short walk from the apartment. Other local villages also have good restaurants such as: Poilhes, Montady, and Capestang.
• Supermarkets: There is a small useful supermarket in Nissan, and another larger one just 5 kms along the road to Beziers.  Larger hypermarkets can be found in both Beziers and Narbonne.

Facilities

• The Studio Apartment: Comprises a spacious double room with a doube bed and a table and 2 chairs. There is a bathroom with a shower, a washbasin and a WC. Also provided is a very small kitchenette suitable for making breakfast only, not other meals where cooking and further preparation is required.  The studio is on the first floor and is reached by a separate external staircase.
• Utlility Area: There is a separate shared laundry area where you will find a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board. There is a small charge of 3.50 euros for each machine load which includes washing powder.  This is payable direct to the owners before departure. 
• Other accommodation: There are 4 other apartments here - please see Apartment La Charmille 1, 2 , 3 and 4. One of these apartments must be rented at the same time as the studio.
• Outside: You are also welcome to use the large, beautiful garden of the maison de maitre for sitting, chatting, reading and relaxing.  You'll find there are plenty of tables, chairs and sun-loungers. There is parking for one car per apartment inside the gates of the property.
• Swimming Pool: The pool is a shared facility with the other guests here. It is 12m x 6.5m and is equipped with a modern chemical-free sterilisation plant. The pool is completely enclosed with a wall or a fence and has a lockable gate, so is secure should you have children.
• Internet:  You can connect to the internet here via your own laptop.  There is a small supplementary charge of 10 euros per week, payable direct to the owners before departure should you wish to use this facility.
• Telephone: Sorry there is no landline telephone in the apartment. However mobile phone signals in the region are normally good.
• Baby Facilities: Subject to availability, a cot and a high chair can be provided for you. Bed linen is provided for the cot and is changed weekly.  There's a small supplementary charge for the cot and bed linen which is 20 euros per week, payable direct to the owners before departure - but please reserve in advance with us.
• Gas, electric and water: Is included in the rental price.
• End of stay cleaning: Is included in the rental price.  If you are staying for 2 weeks, the studio will also be cleaned at the end of your first week.
• Bed, Bathroom and Kitchenette Linen: are included in the rental price and are changed weekly.
• Taxe de Sejour: is included in the rental price.
• Damage Deposit: The owners do not currently ask for a damage deposit but request that you notify them of any breakages or damage prior to your departure.  Should you break or damage anything in the apartment, the replacement cost of the item will be payable in euros direct to the owners.
• Change Over Day: Saturday, arrival time between 1600 hours and 2000 hours. Please notify us in advance if you are arriving later than 2000h. There is a minimum stay of 7 nights.
• Non Saturday Arrivals: May be possible subject to availability but only April, November or December.
• Pets: are not permitted here - sorry.
• Smoking: Permitted, but in open spaces only please.

How To Get There

• By Car: The property is located about 10 kms from Beziers and about 15 kms from Narbonne. The nearest autoroute exit is No: 36 on the A9 'Languedocienne' autoroute.
• By Air: The nearest airports are Beziers Cap d'Agde (20 kms) and Carcassonne (75 kms) both serviced by Ryanair, also for Beziers by Flybe from summer 2011.  Also Montpellier and Perpignan airports are about 85 kms away, Toulouse is 162 kms, and Girona in N. Spain 165 kms.
• By Train: The nearest railway stations are in Beziers (12 kms) and Narbonne (15 kms). Please click on the link to RAIL EUROPE on our Home Page for details of trains and tickets to the region.
